Sanders played football, basketball and baseball at North Fort Myers High School in Florida, Sanders was already a major talent in high school, earning his way onto the Florida High School Athletics Association’s All Century Team.

His senior year at Florida State Sanders bagged the Jim Thorpe Award for most outstanding defensive back. He was a ballhawk of the highest degree, snapping up five errant passes while also leading the country in punt return yardage. And, he made sure to leave Florida State fans with one gleaming gemstone of a memory; Sanders made the game-saving interception with five seconds left to lift FSU over Auburn in the Sugar Bowl, his final collegiate game.

The Atlanta Falcons selected Sanders with the #5 pick in the 1989 NFL Draft. Sanders intercepted five passes as a rookie and continued his ball-hawking ways throughout his Atlanta career. In fives sessions with the Falcons Sanders intercepted 24 passes and scored eight touchdown via interceptions, kick returns and punt returns.

Sanders was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame on his first ballot in 2011. He finished his career with 53 interceptions and 22 touchdowns. He made eight Pro Bowls and named to NFL’s all-Decade Team for the 1990s and the NFL’S 100TH Anniversary team honoring the 100 best players in the league’s history.
