Barry Larkin 19 Years as a Red

Born and raised in the Cincinnati suburb of Silverton, Ohio. Raised Catholic, Larkin attended Archbishop Moeller High School.

Larkin accepted a football scholarship to the University of Michigan to play for coach Bo Schembechler, but during his freshman year, he decided to play baseball exclusively. Larkin showed his loyalty multiple times throughout his career. The shortstop had ample opportunities to ditch the red threads and hit the free agent market but never did.

For his career he batted .295 with 198 home runs and 960 RBI and appeared in 12 All-Star games, won three Gold Gloves and the National League’s Most Valuable Player Award in 1995
